LACHINE COMPRISES a suburb of southwest Montreal and includes a small island of the same name west of the Lachine Rapids, where the St. Lawrence River widens to form Lac-Saint-Louis. Lachine is now part of Montreal, but has a long history of its own. The old town along Blvd. Saint-Joseph is charming.

Overlooking the city, this huge star-shaped fortress has a commanding view of the world’s second-largest natural harbour. Built between 1828 and 1856, the citadel and its outlying fortifications provided a formidable defense.

This 32-hectare nature reserve offers more than 2 kilometers of level walking trails throughout the riverside forest, by the flowing river and next to a quiet lagoon. More than 250 species of birds and 300 species of plants, plus numerous kinds of mammals, have been observed in the region.

Bowron Lake Provincial Park is located about 120 kilometre east of Quesnel on Highway 26 in the Cariboo Mountains.
