Wapusk National Park - Manitoba

Wapusk National Park - Manitoba

Wapusk means "White Bear" in Cree. The park earns its name because it protects one of the world's largest known polar bear maternity denning areas. It includes a large part of the Hudson James Lowlands, a sub-arctic region bordering Hudson Bay that is mostly muskeg and wet peat lands. It is one of the wildest and most remote of Canadian landscapes.

The best way to visit this vast wilderness area safely and comfortably is by hiring an experienced commercial tourism operator. Plan your visit well in advance the time of year you choose for your visit will depend on what you want to see and do. Ask park staff for their recommendations.
