Getting into Canada
US citizens do not need a passport or visa to enter Canada, but must carry some evidence of citizenship, such as a certificate of birth abroad, certificate of naturalization, or state birth certificate. If these documents do not contain the holder's photograph, a photo ID such as a driver's licence is required. Information on requirements for permanent US residents; temporary resident of the US; foreign students, temporary workers, or visitors to the US who wish to return there after visiting Canada; and foreign visitors from outside the US can be found at the Citizenship and Immigration Canada Web site, www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit. Visitors to Canada must not have a criminal record or pose a health risk, and should have enough money to support themselves and any dependents travelling with them during their stay.
