Canadian Tulip Festival - Ottawa

Canadian Tulip Festival - Ottawa

Each spring, Canada's Capital is made even more beautiful with the blooms of millions of tulips, symbols of an enduring friendship that began in the midst of war. The gift of tulips represents the gratitude felt by the Dutch people for Canada's act of kindness in offering shelter to their Princess in the Second World War and for the role Canadians played in liberating their country.

The Canadian Tulip Festival claims to be the world's largest tulip festival, with attendance of over 500,000 visitors annually.

This major cultural event is held annually in Ottawa and Gatineau, Canada, generally on three weekends in May, concluding with the Victoria Day long weekend.

Although tulips are displayed throughout the city, the most extensive tulip beds are to found on the shores of Dow's Lake, at the south end of the Ottawa section of the Rideau Canal.
