An Introduction to Canada

Canada is arguably the best country in the world for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers

The rugged mountains, countless rivers and lakes, and long, crenelated coastline or unlimited opportunities for adventure trips and wildlife viewing. Canada’s rich cultural and physical diversity are the reasons why it should be at the top of every tourist’s list of countries they want to visit. There is something for everyone. For the nature lovers, or people who just want to get away from it all, there are large areas of unspoiled wilderness which are popular with campers, white-water rafters, hunters and anglers. Or you could enjoy the scenic and serene fishing communities on the coasts of the country. For the urban lovers there are vibrant and interesting cities. Lovers can enjoy the mystical and romantic charm of the timeless Niagara Falls.

Blessed with ancient forests, rugged mountains, and large cosmopolitan cities, Canada is unimaginably vast, stretching west from the Atlantic to the Pacific and north to the Arctic Ocean. The second largest country in the world, Canada has a surface area of 9,970,610 sq km. Over 40 percent of the land is north of the treeline at 60° latitude; this extraordinarily hostile and sparsely inhabited wilderness is bitterly cold in winter, averaging -30°C and plagued by millions of insects in summer.

Canada occupies most of the northerly part of North America. From eastern Newfoundland to where the Yukon Territory borders the State of Alaska in the west is a distance of 5,520km. The sheer vastness of Canada, where the major cities are separated by thousands of kilometres, can sometimes be intimidating even to the most intrepid of travelers.
