Algonquin Provincial Park - Ontario

Algonquin Provincial Park - Ontario

For more than 100 years this magnificent park has captured the hearts of millions of visitors who have canoed its clear waters and hiked its endless forests. This extraordinary area was formally set aside in 1893, thanks to the efforts and incredible foresight of Alexander Kirkwood and James Dickson.
Water and wildlife, the special features recognized a hundred years ago, are the same attributes that currently attract hundreds of thousands of people annually to the park.

People are drawn to Algonquin for a number of reasons, one of which is certainly its immense size. With 7,700 square kilometres encompassing endless forests and over a thousand sparkling lakes, the Park offers limitless outdoor recreational opportunities.

Another reason is the amazing diversity of life found here - over 265 species of birds, 40 types of mammals and 1,000 species of plants flourish in the Park.

Coniferous forests also abound in other areas. All through Algonquin cool shorelines are fringed by spruces, balsam fir, white cedar and eastern hemlock.

In turn this incredible mosaic of forest sustains the rich array of animal life for which Algonquin is famous. This abundance of life life affords excellent photographic opportunities.
